Level 3 Music Program is coming!

On December 15, the Level 3 students will present
An Evening of Chicago Sports!
That's right- all of your favorite Chicago sports teams have fight songs or songs that are associated with each team. The Level 3 students have been hard at work learning these songs to share with you on December 15th.
Our schedule for the night is as follows:
6:30 Performance: Students who have Mr. Bower, Mrs. Everett, Mrs. Harte-Naus, and Mrs. Vail
7:30 Performance: Students who have Mrs. Brennan, Mr. Klingberg, Mrs. Mason, and Mr. Pindar
Parents and students, please feel free to dress in your favorite sports team's colors and gear. It doesn't have to be a Chicago sports team- any sports team will do!
If your student is looking to practice some of our songs, I have added some links to videos on YouTube for practice.
Let's Go, Go White Sox!

Welcome Back to Music!
Welcome back to Music at Lincoln! I hope you all had a musical summer. My family and I sure did! We went to WDW for the first time with our kids (ages 9 and 6) and they are still singing the songs from the "Festival of Fantasy" parade and from "The Carousel Of Progress" (believe it or not, that was one of their favorite things there). It was a great time with my family and I satisfied my Olaf cravings with a few new souvenirs for my classroom and closet!
Now that we are back to school, I can tell you that the blog is easily accessible this year! Simply go to the Lincoln School webpage, click on Staff Directory, scroll down to find my name, and click the word "WEB" to be instantly linked to the blog! It's that simple. Once you've done that, bookmark the blog to your browser's toolbar and you can check it anytime!
Our concert and open house schedule should be coming my way soon. As soon as I have that, you will have your program dates for 1st grade, 3rd grade, and Level 3 (Kindergarten and 2nd grade do not have music programs). Please contact me anytime with questions or comments!
Happy Tuesday!

Oh, Say Can You See?
Level 3 students had a great time learning more about our National Anthem. Students spent two lessons learning about the Star Spangled Banner using file folder games created by music materials guru, Tracy King (www.musicbulletinboards.net). One of their favorites was Sticky Note Singing, in which one partner covered up part of the song with a sticky note or two. The other partner then had to sing the song correctly.

Recorder Success!
5th Grade has been hard at work learning new notes on the recorder.
We have been working on third space C and fourth line D. These two notes are tricky because of how they are played. Students are working really hard to learn and play these new notes.
What's next? MORE NEW NOTES!!! Keep up the great work, 5th Grade! :)

Opera Funtime!
5th Grade has been learning about the differences between Opera and Musical performances. We spent some time with this Opera website last week. We passed the Opera trivia with an average of 8-10 correct. Many students asked for the link to play "Whack-a-Tenor". You will find it below!

It's Always a Good Time Part 2
The 5th Graders and I are proud to present 'Good Time' by Owl City/Carly Rae Jepsen. No, we did not have celebrities in our midst, but we did recreate this song using classroom instruments. Our inspiration came from this Jimmy Fallon video.
Jimmy, The Roots, and Carly
We thought, if they can do it, WE CAN TO!!! It was a bit rocky and took a ton of cooperation, experimenting, and collaboration before we came to these recordings. These videos take a long time to upload, so please be patient with me- I'm adding them to the blog as quickly as I can :)

5th Grade- Drumming
In 5th Grade, students have the opportunity to experience new instruments during music class time. We started this year with our world drumming unit. This unit travels through all of the district elementary schools during each school year. We have these drums until October 26, when they will leave Lincoln. The students have been having a great time and are excited to be playing fun rhythms and songs.
These students are playing the Djembe and Conga drums.
Ask your 5th Grader to tell you which drum is which!
Fast hands in action!
I am hoping to post a video of our playing one of our favorites soon. Not only do we play the drums but also the Shekere and Agogo Bells to add in a complement. Coming soon: more pictures and videos!
